What does a facelift aim to restore?
A facelift will reposition your sagging cheeks, eliminate jowling, reduce the deep wrinkles of the face, and remove the excess skin and fat. The resultant effect is a
youthful, shapely facial structure and cheek, a smooth jaw line, and a refreshed, revitalized, natural appearance. To restore youth and maintain harmony, in many cases a
facelift procedure is done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as a neck lift, a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose surgery.

What can you tell me about the procedure and incisions?
To provide a shapely, longer lasting and more effective face lift, the muscles and support structures of the face are re-tightened and re-suspended in addition to removing
excess fat and re-draping the skin. The position and length of the incision vary depending upon the amount of aging changes that need to be corrected. In general, incisions are
camouflaged in natural creases around the ear and in the hairline.
The surgery is 3-4 hours in length and is performed in an accredited day surgery center or hospital. It is usually an outpatient surgery, but may require an overnight stay in
which case you are able to go home the next morning.
What should I anticipate about the recovery?
Expect to have mild discomfort that improves in a few days and is well controlled by oral medication in most patients. The majority of facial swelling and bruising will resolve
in 7-10 days and can be camouflaged by makeup to allow a return to light work and social activity. However, strenuous exercise and activity (including sex) is not recommended for 4-6 weeks.
What are some important risks that I need to be aware of?
As with any other surgical procedure, a facelift is not without risk. Although infrequent and usually temporary, the risks of the procedure will be discussed in great detail
during your consultation. These include but are not limited to the following: temporary numbness in the cheek skin, temporary dysfunction of nerves that control facial expression,
hematoma (blood collection under the skin), infection, poor healing of the skin (usually a problem of smokers), and hairline changes.
Is a facelift permanent?
The results of a facelift may last five to ten years but are not permanent since we can not stop the clock. You can prolong the benefits of your facelift and well being by
maintaining your overall health (balanced diet, exercise, stress management, avoiding smoking, etc.) and protecting yourself from environmental factors through daily use of sun
screen (spf of 30 with z-cote).
What other tips do I need to be aware of?
You should not be deceived by promotions for limited facelifts, mini-facelifts, or weekend facelifts. Since they only remove a minimal amount of excess skin near the ear and have minimal
effects on the cheek, jowls, or neck the results are usually insufficient and disappointing. They are marketed by many nonplastic surgeons who are not comfortable performing a
real facelift. Mini-facelifts may have a smaller fee and shorter scar but that is in exchange for minimal improvement and lack of longevity.
Can I combine a facelift with other surgery?
Because a facelift will only rejuvenate the lower two-thirds of your face, consider eyelid surgery and forehead lift at the same time to restore youth and maintain harmony
throughout your face. Dr. Awada will provide you with a consultation that includes a complete facial evaluation and help you determine what is required to achieve your desired look.
Since you want to look like a younger version of yourself and not like a different person, she will be glad to review preoperative and postoperative photos with you to demonstrate achieved results.
