Chemical Peels, like the Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel use a chemical solution to completely resurface damaged skin. Not only does the chemical peel smooth out facial wrinkles, but it also removes surface sun damage and even reaches the deeper sun damage. It's a technique used to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new collagen, which will then help tighten up aging skin. This is also beneficial for people suffering from acne scarring. This deeper chemical peel does require some downtime. The skin will usually peel and flake for 7-10 days and will also appear red in color; during this time an ointment should be applied to keep the face moist. Once the skin has stopped peeling, the pinkness remaining may be covered with make-up. Any individual with wrinkles, acne scarring, blemishes or uneven skin color, or any damage to the skin from sun exposure or general aging are perfect candidates for a chemical peel. Patients with darker skin color are not usually candidates for a chemical peel but may really benefit from our laser procedures, like the MicroLaserPeel. |
